Comp210 - Introduction to the Principles of Scientific Computing
Fisler, Greiner
Why am I a comp major? It's certainly not because of this class. It was boring and I kept thinking
to myself that it would get better but it never did. Then I thought, "maybe future comp classes will
be more interesting." HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA...good one, I was so naive...
RATING: 2 sarcastic claps.
Math102 - Single Variable Calculus II
Gao
When I took this class I still thought I was good at math. Gao really boosts your ego because
you can get really high scores on the tests. The only problem is that it's so easy the mean is like
a 97. So if you get a 95 you're screwed.
RATING: 5 sarcastic claps.
Chin101 - Introductory Chinese
MacArthur
Ah yes... I loved going to this class because it was more of a social event than a class. This class formed a foundation upon which I could learn more Chinese if I ever had the time.
Unfortunately, now I forgot everything.
RATING: 5 sarcastic claps.
Univ111 - Freshman Seminar on Environmental Studies
Wierdos
Without a doubt one of the worst, one of the stupidest, and one of the most embarassing classes I've ever had the misfortune to take. It was a three-hour long discussion type class that met once a week.
Being myself I never said ANYTHING the whole semester. PRETTY EASY. That would explain why I got
the lowest grade in the class though. I hated going to this class. Through all three hours of class
every week all I thought about was jumping out the window.
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap.
Huma211 - Introduction to Asian Civilizations
Smith, Thal, Klein.
Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism. Can't they talk about anything else in this class? Good thing I took it pass/fail. Unfortunately, back then I didn't realize the power of pass/fail. If you pass/fail a class
you'd better not get a B like I did or you'll wish you tried harder. The best thing to do in pass/fail
classes is not try, never show up to class, and write crap in all your papers. Use phrases like "pretty
sad" and "bunch of crock" frequently. For more information about pass/failing classes, ask
steveso@rice.edu or seankim@rice.edu.
RATING: 2 sarcastic claps.
Hper101 - Martial Arts (HPER = LPAP to you n00bs)
Kim
I have to comment on this class...no sparring. I pictured a bunch of nerds going at it. Even
with pads it still would've been cool to spar.. but NOOOooo. We just did a few exercises and it
felt more like tai bo than real martial arts. We didn't even get to break out the ninja stars
or nunchucks. =(
RATING: 2 sarcastic claps.

Spring '00
Math212 - Multivariable Calculus
Gao
This was the class where I started to realize that I wasn't good at math. I still managed to make an
A because, hey, it's Gao, but I can't really say that I learned anything. It was worth taking just
to hear Sean yell "ARPHA!!" in the middle of class one day.
RATING: 4 sarcastic claps.
Comp212 - Intermediate Programming
Cox, Nguyen
Comp212...Java...Object-Oriented Programming. I learned how to use UNIX
from taking this class and I learned where all the good computer labs on campus
are. And I hate them all...stupid comp labs.
RATING: 3 sarcastic claps.
Comp280 - Mathematics of Computation
Fisler
This used to referred to as Comp 2-EASY but this turned out to be one of the hardest, most annoying
classes I've ever taken. I still have nightmares of this class. Make it stop....*sob*
... Racist graders...
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap.
Chin102 - Introductory Chinese II
MacArthur
I honestly can't remember the difference between Chinese 101 and 102. They were the same class.
RATING: 5 sarcastic claps.
Hper102 - Recreational Games
Bearden
This is the class that introduced me to badminton. I learned about every single sport that you could
possibly play in Autrey. My favorite game will always be the "Grease the water melon, throw it into the
pool, and see who can grab it first" game.
RATING: 4 sarcastic claps.
Fall '00
Japa101 - Introduction to Japanese Language and Culture I
Sato Sensei
Ah, another easy language course, right? Or IS IT??? Yes, welcome to the wonderful world of Japanese.
Learn the 2 Japanese alphabets in two days and memorize the whole book before the end of the first week
or you're screwed. Oh well, most of the people who take Japa are anime freaks, anyway, so they usually
do fine.
RATING: 3 sarcastic claps.
Comp320 - Introduction to Computer Organization
Greiner
Do you enjoy not getting sleep and staring at computer screens all night long? If so, then this class is for you!! This is the first truly EVIL programming course I had to take. This class is bad news. You'll learn to despise words such as "assembler", "cache", and "malloc".
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap.
Elec326 - Digital Logic Design
Jump
15 minute breaks in the middle of Tuesday-Thursday classes are the best idea, ever!! I actually learned
a few things in this class (which I would later forget, of course). If it weren't for deadlines that
exactly matched comp320 deadlines I might've actually almost enjoyed this class. But as it turned out
I spent many sleepless hours trying to reduce my chip counts, getting powerview to work, and yelling
at the ABEL compiler.
RATING: 3 sarcastic claps.
Math335 - Linear Algebra
Slimowitz
Ortho-what?? I was completely confused in this class after the first couple of weeks. I think it's
because my confidence in my math abilities was completely shattered when I took multivariable, but
yeah, have you ever had your brain just shut off? This happened to me frequently in Math335. I would
just be sitting there in class and then--BOOM!!--my head is flat on the desk and I'm out cold.
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap.
Econ211 - Principles of Economics I
Weheir
Pass/Fail = do a crappy job on the homeworks, don't try very hard on the tests, and laugh at other people
who do try hard. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHA. j/k
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap.
Spring '01
Phys102 - Electricity and Magnetism
Corcoran
Buzzer days are the best. However, this class was a constant pain because of
unending streams of problem sets, tutorials, and lab sessions. I didn't
even get to electrocute anything/anyone all semester.
RATING: 2 sarcastic claps.
Comp314 - Applied Algorithms and Data Structures
Wallach, Nguyen
Some projects were interesting and one time this guy who worked on the classic
PC game Wing Commander came to give a lecture. And then he told us we
would never make it in the gaming industry because we all suck and had no lives.
Pretty Pictures from
Comp314
RATING: 3 sarcastic claps.
Caam353 - Computational Numerical Analysis
Heinkenschloss
The Facts
Arnold Schwarzenegger! WTK!!!! CAAM SUCKS!!! Ah yes, I remember this class,
or nap-time, as I fondly refer to it. I hate sleeping in class because
it's not the nice kind of sleep people should be getting, but the restless,
nightmarish kind. And you wake up to find yourself in a real-life
nightmare that won't end, causing you to jump out of your seat...not like it's
ever happened to me before or anything...
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap.
Psyc203 - Introduction to Cognitive Psychology
Ro
This class had impossible tests and even harder graders. I think Sean put it best when he said,
"This class is harder than trying to suck a golf ball through a garden hose."
Overall, this was a good class...FOR ME TO POOP ON.
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap.
Fall '01
Comp412 - Compiler Construction
Kennedy
Mmmm, compilers. They make our lives easier...unless you have to write one
yourself.
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap.
Musi117 - Fundamentals of Music I
Bishop
I loved this class! I think this is the only class I've ever received an A+ in
my life. It was nice to relearn all the music theory that I forgot from piano lessons.
What's a quarter note again?
RATING: 5 sarcastic claps.
Psyc370 - Introduction to Human Factors and Ergonaumics Design
Laughery
Hmmmm. This class was very similar to the movie "Groundhog Day"
because for every class we had the same lecture over and over again.
RATING: 2 sarcastic claps.
Stat331 - Applied Probability
Oloffson
HE-MAN !!! STAT SUCKS!! It started out easy but towards the middle and the end the subject matter
just became too crappy and difficult so I came to the conclusion that STAT = SUCKS with a
probability of 1.0. Our prof was cool and all and so is Sweden, but i
can't deny it--STAT SUCKS.
The Facts
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap.
Spring '02
Comp421 - Operating Systems / Concurrent Programming
Johnson
This class felt like I was being hit on the head with a sledge-hammer
repeatedly. I can't help but think of Revenge of the Nerds whenever I think of this class.
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap.
Huma102 - Introduction to Humanities in the Western World
Kauffman
This was actually a pretty interesting class. Superman, good discussions, and even a field trip!!
Reminded me of high school.
RATING: 4 sarcastic claps.
Psyc540 - Foundations of Human Factors
Byrne
Another 3 hour class, although this one didn't seem as long as the seminar class I took freshman year. My
favorite part of the class was when we all complained about all the bad designs that exist in the
world. Phil Chung and I got to run an embarrassing psyc experiment at
Martel (see video below).

RATING: 4 sarcastic claps.
Comp300 - Society in the Information Age
Gorry
Every Comp major should take this class. It gives you a chance to complain
about how much computers suck and you can even videotape yourself doing stupid
things and turn it in as a final project (see video below).

Comp482 - Design and Analysis of Algorithms
Kavraki
This was the hardest class I've ever taken in my entire life. It hurts just
thinking about it... Although, now that it's over I can look back and say with
100% confidence that comp482 SUCKS.
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap
Comp360 - Computer Graphics
Goldman
Interesting projects...too bad they're so long to the point where I had
to do comp on fridays...FRIDAYS!!! That's reuben time!!!! LAO
TIAN!!!!!! I hate symonds2 computers now.
RATING: 2 sarcastic claps
Psyc441 - Human-Computer Interaction
Byrne
Hmmmm, not much human-computer interaction went on here...although perhaps that was my fault.
RATING: 3 sarcastic claps
Elec201 - Introduction to Engineering Design (LEGO LAB)
Young
If you're thinking "battle-bots!!" like I was then you might be disappointed. However, it was fun trying to find ways around the contest rules so you could destroy the other robots anyway. Maybe it was because our robot got rocked in the competition or maybe it was because I kept falling asleep in class but this class didn't seem as good as it should have been.
RATING: 3 sarcastic claps
Spring '03
Comp460 - Advanced Computer Graphics
Warren
This class is awesome!! Finally, a class where we can make our own game and argue with each other over little things like where the health bar goes and how many bombs we should be able to carry. It's more interesting than a normal comp class, we all got A's, and there were no tests or homeworks. This one's a winner. But comp still sucks.
RATING: 4 sarcastic claps
Comp440 - Artificial Intelligence
Subramanian
This class was tough...like taking a theory comp class like 482 and a hard-core programming class like 360, and then shoving a screwdriver up your nose all at the same time... Ugh.. i don't think i learned anything in this class. We need more teaching, less nerd discussion. yeah, you know who i'm talking about.
RATING: 1 sarcastic clap
Japa102 - Introduction to Japanese Language and Culture
Sato
This class was a lot of fun... now I remember why I love taking language classes: so I can say things and make fun of people in ways that no one can understand.
RATING: 5 sarcastic claps
White
Except for the whole waking up at 7am thing, this class was awesome. My tennis game improved immensely, but I still need a lot of work before I can go pro.
RATING: 4 sarcastic claps.
Hamza
Fencing is awesome!! We actually got in shape from hardcore conditioning for the first part of the semester and then we actually got to poke each other with dangerous sharp objects and not get in trouble for it (not like elementary school).
RATING: 5 sarcastic claps.
